The feeding of the 5,000 is a miracle no doubt about it. But tucked away inside that story is also a mystery.

When Jesus is handed the five loaves, he does something with the bread that he would later repeat several times in his ministry.

First, he took the bread; then he blessed the bread; then he broke the bread; then he gave the bread. All of us are like that bread; we are in one of these four stages.

God is either taking us, or blessing us, or breaking us, or giving us away.

                          1. Taken

A few meager fish and loaves of bread may not seem like much. But when they are in the hands of one who is able to do what seems impossible, than all of a sudden a lunchable turns into a meal for thousands of people.

Our lives, our goals, our hopes, and our dreams may not seem like anything special. But when we put them into the hands of God He takes us and does what we deem as impossible on our own.

                          2. Leftovers

We’re pretty good at discovering needs. But what we struggle with is when God wants us to be a part of meeting those needs.

Often we look inward, and we come to the conclusion that we can’t do it. But when it’s something bigger than us, God wants us to realize that we can’t do it, but that He can.

When we look to Him, and He meets the needs, we may find ourselves picking up leftovers from all that God did.

                          3. The Blessing In Brokenness

“There’s nothing more important in the whole wide world than that God show through you.”

We think that our brokenness or the things that are wrong with us, limit are usefulness to God. But God shines through our brokenness. He shows Himself through us in our brokenness.

Where we see ourselves as broken, God sees His beloved. Where we feel that we can’t be used by God because of our weaknesses, He wants us to understand that with Him, everything is possible.

                          4. Caught To Give

God doesn’t save us just for ourselves. He’s saves us so that we can point others to Him as well.

Don’t spend your life avoiding the people that God is running towards to engage.

When Peter was “caught” by Jesus, He told him that he would now be a “fisher of men.” As those in Christ, we are loved, so that we can love in response.
