The Last Supper was more than a mere meal. It was an experience of incredible intentionality. To describe it as primarily a dinner is to downplay the dramatic display of divine humility. It was a sacred moment between a man and his closest friends, yet included his closest foe too.

The Last Supper can be studied, painted and pondered, but it cannot be forgotten. For it is a forever reminder of a beautiful truth: Jesus loves us and has graciously given us a seat at the table!

 

1. Intentional Love

Jesus was so intentional in His death for us, should we not intentionally live for him?

We have a response, not to go die, not to have a last meal, not to be betrayed, but to intentionally, purposefully, passionately, resolutely, live for Him.

If we are intentional about that pursuit of Jesus, than what else might we be challenged by Jesus to be intentional about?

 
 

2. Powerful Love

A lot of times we are okay with not being first, but we don't ever want to be last. We don't want to stoop down and be the least.

But Jesus is different, and so is His example. Although Jesus had all authority given to Him, He humbled Himself as a servant to others. He picked up a basin and towel and washed the feet of his disciples.

He says that, "anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all."  (Mark 9:35)

 
 

3. The Night Brokered Betrayal Kissed Limitless Love

Jesus doesn’t take his eyes off dirty feet or turn his back on dirty hearts.

Three “kinds” of believers: believers, un-believers, make-believers. Where do we fit?

Jesus knew Judas would betray him, but still gave him the seat of honor.

4. Unforgettable Love

We forget that we are a forgetful people.

As we look back to that first table, we look ahead to a future table - the wedding feast of the lamb. Remembering leads to reflections and reflection leads to reverence.
